Logo Files and PMS Colors for Promotional Products
Best file formats
| File type | Works for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| AI, EPS or PDF (vector) | Everything: screen print, pad print, embroidery, engraving, full color | Best choice. Sharp at any size and easy to separate into imprint colors. |
| High-resolution PNG | Full-color printing | Can work when the image is large and clear. |
| JPG or low-resolution image | Usually needs redrawing | Suppliers can usually redraw it, sometimes for an additional art fee. |
Not sure what you have? Ask whoever designed your logo for the "vector" or "original" files. Graphic designers and sign shops usually have them.
Matching your brand colors (PMS)
PMS (Pantone Matching System) numbers are the standard way to specify exact colors for print. If your brand guide lists PMS colors, include them with your order.
- Screen printing and pad printing: PMS colors can be matched on most items when you provide the numbers.
- Embroidery: uses the closest available thread color.
- Full-color digital printing: cannot match PMS colors exactly, because it blends inks to create colors.
Keep in mind that the product color also affects how an imprint looks. A color printed on a dark item or a textured surface can look different from the same color on white.

Quick answers
What file format do you need for my logo?
Vector files are best: AI, EPS or PDF. A high-resolution PNG can work for full-color printing. If you only have a JPG, suppliers can usually redraw it, sometimes for an additional art fee.
Can you match my logo colors exactly?
On most screen-printed and pad-printed items, yes, if you provide PMS numbers. Embroidery uses the closest thread match, and full-color digital printing cannot match PMS colors exactly.
What is a vector file?
A vector file stores your logo as shapes instead of pixels, so it stays sharp at any size. Common vector formats are AI, EPS and PDF saved from design software.
